The main draw for the inaugural Rafa Nadal Open Banc Sabadell has been made. The top seed of the €43,000 ATP Challenger hard-court event is World No. 110 Thomas Fabbiano. The Italian will open his title bid against Dutch qualifier Tim van Rijthoven, seeking his first trophy of the season.
No. 2 seed Pablo Andújar will start against Goncalo Oliveira of Portugal. The 32-year-old Spaniard clinched two titles this season, winning the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech as well as the ATP Challenger event in Alicante, held at the Equelite Sport Academy of Juan Carlos Ferrero.
“The venue here is spectacular and the museum is also very nice,” Andújar told during the main draw cereomy at the Rafa Nadal Museum XPerience on Sunday. “I am really looking forward to competing here.”
Ramkumar Ramanathan of India is seeded third and Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky is the tournament’s No. 4. Australia’s Bernard Tomic lost in the opening round of the US Open qualifying to compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis and will try to win his first title since 2015. Tomic will open his Mallorca campaign against Spaniard Mario Vilella Martínez.
Wild cards have been awarded to #NextGenATP star Nicola Kuhn of Spain, Emilio Gomez from Ecuador as well as Spanish young gun Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
