Local favourite Lorenzo Sonego and Dustin Brown of Germany will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the €127,000 AON Open Challenger, held on the clay-courts of the Centro tennis di Valletta Cambiaso in Genova.
Sonego defeated No. 5 seed Federico Delbonis of Argentina 7-5, 6-3 in the stage of the final four. The tournament’s No. 8 from Turin saved four of the five break points he faced, converting three of his own to secure victory in one hour and 56 minutes.
Brown outlasted Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci 6-3, 7-6(6). The wild card entry sent down five aces, winning 53 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 37 minutes.
Brown will appaer in his first ATP Challenger final since finishing runner-up to Alessandro Giannessi at Szczecin two years ago. The 33-year-old is seeking his first trophy since Manchester 2016. Sonego could clinch his second ATP Challenger title following his triumph in Ortisei last year. The pair will meet for the first time.
