Local wild card entry Dragos Dima has clinched his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour, winning the 2018 Sibiu Open. In Sunday’s singles final of the €43,000 clay-court event, the 26-year-old from Romania beat Dutch qualifier Jelle Sels 6-3, 6-2.
Dima won 73 per cent of his first service points and broke his opponent six times to secure victory in one hour and 12 minutes. The Bucharest resident collects €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP-Ranking points.
“It was a tough day. I was pretty nervous, as it was a special day for me. I had a difficult start, as he was more aggressive than me but I managed to turn things around,” Dima said and was happy to clinch his first Challenger title.
“It’s crazy I can’t describe it in words. It was a long week. I didn’t have too much time to think about it. I just played my matches, did my best and in the end enjoyed the result.”
