Marcel Granollers advanced to the quarterfinals of the Wells Fargo Tiburon Challenger. The top seed of the $100,000 hard-court event edged past Turkish qualifier Cem Ilkel 6-2, 7-5 on Wednesday.
Granollers struck seven aces, winning 84 per cent of his first service points to prevail after one hour and 45 minutes. The World No. 104 will next take on John-Patrick Smith of Australia.
Christopher Eubanks knocked out No. 3 seed Peter Polansky of Canada 6-3, 6-3. The 22-year-old US-American secured victory in just 57 minutes. Next up for Eubanks will be compatriot Noah Rubin.
