Duckworth To Meet Mmoh In Tiburon Challenger Semis

The semi-finals of the $100,000 Wells Fargo Tiburon Challenger are set. Top seed Marcel Granollers eased past John-Patrick Smith of Australia 6-2, 6-3 on Friday.

Granollers was in control of the encounter and secured victory after one hour and nine minutes without facing a break point. The World No. 104 from Spain will next take on sixth seed Noah Rubin, who emerged victorious from the all-US-American affair with Christopher Eubanks 6-4, 6-3.

Later in the day, James Duckworth continued his good run of form. The champion of the ATP Challenger in Cary two weeks ago, beat Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador 7-5, 6-3. Duckworth won 54 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 28 minutes. Up next for the 26-year-old Aussie will be No. 5 seed Michael Mmoh, who fought past fellow US-American Tommy Paul 7-6(7), 2-6, 6-3.
