The action continued in main draw of the $100,000 Stockton Challenger on Tuesday as singles and doubles were in full force. Top seed Jordan Thompson advanced with ease in singles, while the four-seed doubles pair of Toshihide Matsui and Frederik Nielsen battled in their match to reach the quarterfinals.
Qualifiers William Blumberg and Alexander Sarkissian kept their main draw chances alive defeating their respective opponents. Blumberg fought back being down a set to defeat JC Aragone 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Sarkissian battled through three sets to defeat Alex Banes 6-4, 6-7 (4), and 6-1.
World No. 106 Jordan Thompson defeated US-American teenager Patrick Kypson 6-2, 6-2 behind a 5-for-8 mark in break points as well as a 71 per cent first serve rate. On the second turn though, Maxime Janvier upset No. 2 seed Reilly Opelka in a three set battle. Janvier fell in the first set 6-7(4), but fought back in sets two and three to claim the 6-4, 6-4 victory.
On Court North Three, the five-seeded Norwegian youngster Casper Ruud prevailed against Jan Choinski 6-3, 6-0 to advance to the next round. No. 7 seed Alex Bolt kept his chances alive, as he defeated Tom Fawcett 6-4, 6-1. Daniel Evans kept the momentum, as he swiftly advanced to the next round with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over James Duckworth in his first match of the tournament.
Kaichi Uchida moved his way into the next round defeating Tommy Paul 6-1, 6-7 (3), 6-0, while Darian King eased his way to victory over the University of the Pacific product, Philip Hjorth, 6-1, 6-1.
