MONTERREY, October 8, 2018

David Ferrer has clinched his sixth ATP Challenger title, his first since 2002, at the $150,000 Abierto GNP Seguros in Monterrey. In the oldest final in Challenger history, the 36-year-old Spaniard ousted 39-year-old Ivo Karlovic of Croatia 6-3, 6-4.

Ferrer didn’t face a break point, capitalizing on two of his own seven chances to prevail after one hour and nine minutes. The former World No. 3 has improved to 6-0 in finals on the ATP Challenger Tour. It was his last tournament of the season.

Ferrer, who plans to retire from professional next year, earns $21,600 in prize money as well as 125 ATP-Ranking points.

Earlier in the day, Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan from India clinched the doubles crown. The No. 3 seeded duo upset the top seeds Leander Paes of India and Mexican Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela 6-1, 6-4. The final lasted one hour and four minutes.
