Daniel Masur opened his home campaign at the WOLFFKRAN Open in Ismaning with a first round win. The 23-year-old German defeated Bernabé Zapata Miralles of Spain 7-6(6), 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
Masur sent down eight aces and capitalized on both of his break points to prevail after one hour and 18 minutes. He will next take on either Lorenzo Sonego of Italy, the top seed of the €43,000 ATP Challenger event, or Pedro Cachín from Argentina.
Masur will be joined in the second round by compatriot Louis Wessels. The 20-year-old wild card entry knocked out No. 7 seed Lucas Mieder of Austria 7-6(10), 6-3. Wessels won 55 per cent of the total points played to seal victory in one hour and 32 minutes. Next up will be fellow German Jeremy Jahn.
