STOCKHOLM, October 18, 2018

Three players advanced to the quarterfinals of the Intrum Stockholm Open on Wednesday. Jack Sock battled past local wild card entry Elias Ymer 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. The No. 4 seed from the United States saved seven of the eight break point chances he faced, capitalizing on two of his own to prevail after two hours and 22 minutes.

“It was a tough match, I thought [Ymer] played very well,” said Sock. “I hadn’t seen him play a whole lot before, but I thought he served well and played solid from the ground. It definitely took some of my best tennis to get through in the end.” Sock will next play either Ernests Gulbis or #NextGenATP Canadian Denis Shapovalov.

Stefanos Tsitsipas also had to go the distance to reach the stage of the final eight. The No. 3 seed from Greece edged out John Millman from Australia 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Tsitsipas won 52 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in two hours and two minutes.

“I had a good start, got the break and thought it was a good start,” said Tsitsipas. “I started playing defensively in the second set and got broken twice. It didn’t affect me losing the second set, but I got closer to his serve in the third set and broke at 4-3.”

The 20-year-old awaits the winner of the endcounter between Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco and Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany.

Hyeon Chung defeated US-American Denis Kudla 6-3, 6-3. The 22-year-old from South Korea didn’t face a break point, using three of his own six chances to advance in one hour and 23 minutes. Chung will either meet No. 2 seed Fabio Fognini of Italy or Lukas Lacko from Slovakia.

Earlier in the day, Oscar Otte of Germany celebrated his first main draw match win on the ATP World Tour. The 25-year-old German qualifier beat Jurgen Zopp of Estonia 6-3, 7-5. Otte outpointed his opponent 67-56 after one hour and 11 minutes. The World No. 193 from Cologne will next challenge US-American Tennys Sandgren.
