Dominic Thiem leads a field of Nitto ATP Finals contenders this week at the Erste Bank Open 500 in Vienna, Austria. Thiem, the top seed, reached the quarterfinals at his hometown tournament in 2013. But the 25-year-old will look to go further, carrying the momentum of a triumph in St. Petersburg. As Frenchman Richard Gasquet was forced to withdraw from the event due to wrist injury, Theim will open his title bid against Belgian qualifier Ruben Bemelmans on Tuesday.

South African Kevin Anderson is the No. 2 seed, as he tries to help his cause in the ATP Race To London. Anderson, currently placed seventh in the Race, is pushing for his first appearance at the season finale in London. No. 3 seed Grigor Dimitrov, in-form Kei Nishikori, Antwerp champion Kyle Edmund and Shanghai runner-up Borna Coric figure to be strong contenders at the ATP World Tour 500-level event.

Federer leads Basel line-up

Roger Federer, an eight-time champion in Basel, leads the field at this week’s Swiss Indoors Basel, an ATP World Tour 500-level event. The 37-year-old has advanced to the final at his home event in his past 11 appearances. Federer will open his home campaign against Serbian Filip Krajinovic.

The Swiss is joined by World No. 5 Alexander Zverev, No. 6 Marin Cilic and an exciting field of challengers, including #NextGenATP Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, who captured his first ATP World Tour title on Sunday in Stockholm.
