HAMBURG, October 29, 2018
Altug Celikbilek clinched his second title of the season, winning the second edition of the Tennis Future Hamburg presented by Tannenhof. The 22-year-old from Turkey fought past No. 2 seed Louis Weßels of Germany 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 in Saturday’s singles final of the $15,000 ITF Pro Circuit event.
Celikbilek won 66 per cent of his first service points and broke his opponent four times to prevail after one hour and 50 minutes.
“I am very happy about this victory because I started into the tournament being slightly injured. I really would not have thought that I would win the title at the end. Louis and I have known each other for a long time, he is a nice guy and has a lot of potential. I am glad that I was able to win the match today,” a happy Celikbilek said. He earns $2,160 in prize money as well as 18 ATP-Ranking points.
Runner-up Weßels was disappointed with the final defeat, but overall still satisfied with his performance: “I played bad in the first set, but improved my game in the second. In the third set it was pretty tight, a really good match. I had a lot of chances, unfortunately I did not convert the break point to even score at 5:5. But I still had a good week here, even though I would have liked to get the title – my first on hard court,” the 20-year-old German stated.
