Christian Garin captured his thrid consecutive ATP Challenger title, lifting the trophy of the Lima Challenger Copa Claro. The 22-year-old from Chile beat Pedro Sousa of Portugal in Saturday’s singles final of the $50,000 clay-court event.
Garin converted four of his 11 break point chances, winning 53 per cent of the total points played to seal victory in one hour and 13 minutes.
By adding the Lima Challenger crown to his two previous two triumphs this month in Santo Domingo and in Campinas, Garin collects $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP-Ranking points. The Santiago de Chile native will make his top 100 debut on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Guido Andreozzi and Guillermo Duran clinched the doubles title. The all-Argentine combination rallied past Ariel Behar of Uruguay and Gonzalo Escobar from Ecuador 2-6, 7-6(5), 10-5. The final lasted one hour and 41 minutes.
