STAR WINGS Press Release, October 30, 2018
Kaja Juvan won her fourth ITF $25,000 title of the year on Sunday by beating Russia’s Polina Leykinda 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the Santa Margherita Di Pula final in Sardegna, Italy.
The 17-year-old Slovenian will rise to a new career-high – around No. 170 – in the WTA Rankings on Monday, following victory at the ASD Fortevillage tennis club.
“I am happy to finish my season with this title,” said Juvan. “It wasn’t an easy week, but I did what I was hoping for at the start of the tournament. I’m definitely looking forward to some rest and then putting in the work for next year.”
Juvan beat Italian opponents Camila Rosatello (first round), Dailia Spiteri (second round) and Anatasia Grymalska (quarter-finals), and Chile’s Fernanda Brito in the semi-finals.
Juvan had previously won three $25,000 ITF titles in 2018 at Balatonboglar, Hungary (d. Raluca Georgiana Serban), in Ystad, Sweden (d. Rosca) and in Bagnatica, Italy (d. Paolini). She also recently became the first player in the history of Youth Olympic Games to win two gold medals.
