Tommy Paul and Peter Polansky will go head to head in Sunday’s singles championship match of the Charlottesville Men’s Pro Challenger. Paul upset the No. 1 seed of the $75,000 ATP Challenger event Bradley Klahn in an all-US-American affair 6-3, 6-3.

The 21-year-old lucky loser from Greenville saved the only break point he faced, capitalizing on three of his own four chances to advance in one hour and seven minutes.

“The return was pretty important today, as he has very good serves,” Paul said.

Asked, how he feels physically after coming through the qualification, Paul commented: “All my matches were prettty short, besides my match with Ivo (Karlovic) last night, but there the points were pretty short. The physio also helped me.”

Paul, who finished runner-up in Charlottesville three years ago to Noah Rubin in his lone ATP Challenger final, will face Peter Polansky. The No. 8 seed from Canada ended the great run of US-American wild card entry Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, winning 6-2, 7-6(4).

Polansky outpointed his opponent 69-61 to prevail after one hour and 16 minutes.

“I have had a pretty good year so far,” Polansky said. “I am playing some good tennis, especially in the later part of the year. I do not have too many expectations going into the last three events of the season. Now I am in a final, being close to the top 100. Tomorrow’s match and the next couple of weeks can be important again in order to finish the year strong.”
