Hoang Hoists Maiden Challenger Trophy In Eckental

Antoine Hoang claimed his maiden trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour, winning the €43,000 Eckental Challenger. The Frenchman, who celebrated his 23rd birthday, upset the tournament’s No. 7 and 2014 titlist Ruben Bemelmans from Belgium 7-5, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final at the House of Sports.

Hoang advanced to the title match by dropping only one set and capitalized on five of his 13 break point chances in the final to prevail after one hour and 36 minutes. He earns €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP-Ranking points.

Krawietz/Mies continue great run of form

Earlier in the day, Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies clinched their fifth ATP Challenger doublest title of the season. The No. 4 seeds from Germany eased past Hugo Nys of France and Briton Jonny O’Mara 6-1, 6-4. The encounter lasted 58 minutes.

“It was a great atmosphere today and it is always a pleasure to play in front of your family and friends,” Krawietz said.

“It was a very special support by the spectators today. We played one of our best matches and it’s just wonderful to take the title here,” Mies added.
