STARWING SPORTS Press Release, November 12, 2018
Ivana Jorovic, the former junior World No. 1 and Roland Garros finalist, won the biggest title of her professional career on Sunday.
The 21-year-old Serbian won the $100,000 tournament in Shenzhen, China by beating the in-form top seed and World No. 46 Saisai Zheng of China 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 in the final.
“I am happy with the title and the way I played in Shenzhen,” said Jorovic. “I hope that all the hard work I put in is starting to pay off, and that this is a sign I’m on the right path. I’ve been healthy and playing better the past couple of months. [A] big thanks to my team, especially my coaches and all the staff at Tipsarevic Academy.”
Throughout the week, Jorovic beat Peangtarn Plipuech (Thailand), Shuyue Ma (China), Carol Zhao (Canada) and Danka Kovinic (Montenegro) before clinching the title with a career-best win over Zheng.
With the 12th pro title of her career, Jorovic will rise up to No. 135 in the WTA Rankings, just one place shy of a career high in late 2016. Jorovic will now travel to Taipei for her final tournament (a WTA 125) next week.
