HOUSTON, November 14, 2018
On a chilly but clear day in Houston, six US-American women and seven US-American men booked their spots in the second round of the Oracle Challenger Series, as a whopping 27 matches were on Tuesday’s schedule.
Top seed Belinda Bencic survived a three-set scare from US-American Allie Kiick in the $125,000 WTA event. The World No. 38 from Switzerland, who clinched her first title of the season at the Red Rock Pro Open on Sunday, won 2-6, 7-6(6), 6-0 in one hour and 46 minutes. Next up for Bencic will be Chinese wild card entry Shuai Peng.
No. 1-seeded US-American Tennys Sandgren fell on the men’s side to Kamil Majchrzak 6-2, 7-5. The 22-year-old from Poland capitalized on all of his four break point chances to secure victory in one hour and 23 minutes. Majchrzak will next face Roberto Ortega-Olmedo from Spain.
