The final week of the 2018 ATP Challenger Tour is underway with the tournaments in Pune as well as the Andria E Castel Del Monte Challenger to conclude the season. Ugo Humbert, the top seed of the indoor €43,000 indoor event in Apulia in southern Italy, opened his title bid with a 7-6(4), 6-3 win on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old from France saved all three break points he faced, converting one of his own to prevail after one hour and 21 minutes. Next up for Humbert, who looking to finish the season as the youngest Frenchman in the Top 100, will next take on Uladzimir Ignatik from Belarus.
No. 2 seed Lorenzo Sonego advanced to the second round on Tuesday with a hard-fought 7-6(1), 5-7, 7-5 win over Tobias Simon of Germany. The World No. 107 from Italy fired 17 aces and won 51 per cent of the total point played to secure victory in two hours and nine minutes. The point of the match, however, belonged to the German:
