PUNE, November 23, 2018
Prajnesh Gunneswaran and Elias Ymer will compete in Saturday’s singles final of the KPIT MSLTA ATP Challenger. The No. 4 seed from India knocked out the tournament’s No. 1 Radu Albot on Friday afternoon at the Mhalunge-Balewadi Tennis Complex in Pune.
Gunneswaran came back from a set down, converting three of his six break point opportunities to secure a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory in exactly two hours of play.
“I made my game today and put pressure at the right time, played consistently in the match,” Gunneswaran said.
Earlier in the day, Ymer fought past Brayden Schnur from Canada 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. The third seed from Sweden struck 10 aces, winning 80 per cent of his first service points to prevail after one hour and 43 minutes.
Ymer, who is seeking his second ATP Challenger title of the season, won the only previous meeting between the two in the 2018 qualifying of the French Open. Gunneswaran could claim his third Challenger trophy this year following his triumphs in Anning, China and Bangalore, India.
