Champions Kid’s Day in Shenzhen with Maria Sharapova

SHENZHEN, December 31, 2018

The top seed of the Shenzhen Open, Aryna Sabalenka, third seed Wang Qiang, fifth seed Maria Sharapova and coach Thomas Hogstedt took to Centre Court on a chilly Sunday morning to entertain and provide a short tennis clinic to 30 excited tennis students.

The freezing temperature of just eight degrees Celsius coupled with gusty wind conditions did not stop the tennis stars from warming the hearts of these young kids aged between three and 12 years old.

Belarusian world No.13 Sabalenka and top ranked Chinese Wang, currently at a career best of No.20, kicked things off by giving the kids pointers on the proper stance and approach to hit forehand and backhand shots before giving them a chance to practice on Centre Court.

Next up, former world No.1 Sharapova and her current coach Hogstedt thrilled the kids by practicing volley drills at the net before taking part in a friendly interactive competition and taking selfies on court.

Some of the lucky children who participated were chosen via social media contests on Weibo and Weixin.
