Jannik Sinner continued his great run of form at the Internazionali di Tennis Trofeo Faip-Perrel this week by reaching his first semi-final on the ATP Challenger Tour. The 17-year-old Italian eliminated compatriot and No. 4 seed Gianluigi Quinzi 6-2, 6-3 on Friday evening.
In front of packed stands inside the PallaAgnella in Bergamo, Sinner won 81 per cent of his first service points and broke his opponent five times. The wild card entry from South Tyrol served the match out in style with his fourth ace after one hour and 12 minutes.
Up next for Sinner, who has become the youngest player to reach a semi-final at ATP Challenger level since Félix Auger-Aliassime in 2017, will be Tristan Lamasine. The 25-year-old Frenchman eased past No. 14 seeded Italian Stefano Napolitano 6-1, 6-3 in 69 minutes.
Earlier in the day, Roberto Marcora booked his spot in the stage of the final four. The 29-year-old Italian defeated Briton Jan Choinski 7-6(3), 6-3. Marcora won 54 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 21 minutes.
The World No. 152 from Lombardy will next play Arthur de Greef. The 15th favourite from Belgium beat No. 5 seed Luca Vanni of Italy 7-6(2), 6-4 in one hour and 40 minutes.
