World No. 366 Benjamin Hassan remains the highest ranked player left in the singles draw of the MLP Cup at the Racket Center in Nußloch. The 23-year-old wild card entry from Germany advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITF World Tennis Tour M25 Event on Thursday with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over compatriot Dominik Böhler.
Hassan capitalized on nine of his 13 break point chances, winning two points more than his opponent in total to seal victory in two hours and seven minutes. The No. 5 seed will next take on Botic van de Zandschulp from the Netherlands, who beat Lorenzo Frigerio of Italy 6-2, 6-3.
Alexander Erler knocked out No. 4 seed Marc-Andrea Huesler from Switzerland 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. The 21-year-old Austrian sent down six aces, winning 79 per cent of his first service points to prevail after two hours and 39 minutes. Up next for Erler will be eighth favourite Tobias Simon from Germany.
In the remaining quarterfinal match-ups Peter Torebko will face Peter Heller in an all-German-encounter and No. 7 seeded Dutch Tim van Rijthoven will meet Takanyi Garanganga from Zimbabwe.
