The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the German Tennis Federation (DTB), The club an der Alster and entrepreneur Alexander Otto announced an agreement on the modernization measures for the traditional Rothenbaum Tennis Center in Hamburg, venue of the ATP 500 clay-court event in July, which features a retractable roof stadium seating 13,200 spectators – making it the largest Centre Court in Germany.
21 years after its last modernization the Rothenbaum stadium will be remodeled until summer 2020. A total amount of €10 Mio. will be invested in the roof, the seats on Centre Court as well as on Courts 1 and 2, the locker rooms, public toilets, the signposting, the hall of fame and the stadium facade.

Ulrich Klaus, President of the DTB stated in a press release: “The Rothenbaum stadium in Hamburg is an important venue for German tennis. Due to the now decided modernization it will be upgraded in the long term. We thank everyone involved for the constructive discussions of the last weeks and in particular the Hanseatic city of Hamburg and Alexander Otto for their commitment. We are happy that first measures will be implemented this year to benefit tournament visitors.”
