STUTTGART, February 25, 2019

Stan Wawrinka will make his return to the MercedesCup in Stuttgart this year. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP 250 grass-court event, which will be held from 8 to 16 June 2019 at the venue of the Tennis Club Weissenhof.

Wawrinka finished runner-up to Rafael Nadal in 2007 when the tournament was still played on clay. The 33-year-old Swiss will be joined by Milos Raonic from Canada, who reached the final in Stuttgart last year.

“Stan Wawrinka also brings Grand Slam power to the MercedesCup with his triumphs in Melbourne, Paris and New York. Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam tournament he has not won yet. But maybe he can do that, if he succeeds in Stuttgart,” tournament director Edwin Weindorfer commented and added:

“In any case, we are very happy that Stan Wawrinka will return to the Weissenhof for the first time after twelve years. The same applies, of course, to Milos Raonic, who is among the favorites in every grass-court tournament. He proved it last year in Stuttgart with his run into the final. We are currently holding intensive talks with other top players in order to be able to offer fans another attractive tournament this year.”
