López-Pérez Claims Maiden Challenger Title At Zhuhai Open

ZHUHAI, March 10, 2019

Enrique López-Pérez has been competing on the ATP Challenger Tour on a regular basis for more than five years. This Sunday, the 27-year-old Spaniard eventually clinched his first singles title, winning the 2019 Zhuhai Open located on Hengqin Island, adjacent to the coastal region of Macau. López-Pérez defeated Evgeny Karlovskiy from Russia 6-1, 6-4 in the final.

The World No. 252 beat Saketh Myneni of India, German teenager Rudolf Molleker, No. 11 seed Blaz Rola from Slovenia and No. 14 seed Mohamed Safwat of Egypt en route to the title match. López-Pérez was in control in the final, breaking Karlovskiy’s serve four times to prevail after one hour and three minutes.

The Madrid native takes away from China $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP-Ranking points.

Later in the day, Mao-Xin Gong and Ze Zhang took the doubles title. The all-Chinese combination edged past Max Purcell and Luke Saville of Australia 6-4, 6-4. The encounter lasted one hour and 10 minutes.
