The Phoenix Country Club welcomes players and fans for the first time, as the ATP Challenger Tour is making its debut at the 119-year-old facility this week. Held during the second week of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, the tournament attracts a world-class field headlined by World No. 21 David Goffin of Belgium.
While the seeded players at the Arizona Tennis Classic enjoy a first-round bye, the remaining competitors have already stepped into action. 17-year-old Chun-hsin Tseng of Chinese Taipei scored the biggest win of his young career fighting past compatriot and World No. 132 Jason Jung 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 on a rain-interrupted Tuesday evening.

Tseng, currently ranked World No. 1 in the ITF Juniors Ranking, clinched the boys’ singles titles at Roland Garros as well as at Wimbledon last year. The teenager, who entered the main draw of the ATP Challenger 125 hard-court event with a wild card, broke Jung’s serve four times and won 54 per cent of the total point played to advance to the second round after one hour and 54 minutes. Up next for Tseng will be No. 4 seed Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan.
Kamil Majchrzak emerged victorious from the battle of the youngsters with Swede Mikael Ymer, winning 7-6(3), 6-3. The 23-year-old from Poland capitalized on all of his four break point chances to prevail after one hour and 28 minutes. Majchrzak will next take on French lucky loser Fabrice Martin.
The seeded players will open their title bid on Wednesday. Top favourite Goffin will face the winner of the encounter between Italian veteran Luca Vanni and Spaniard Roberto Carballés Baena. No. 2 seeded Frenchman Jeremy Chardy awaits Lorenzo Sonego of Italy and No. 3 seed John Millman of Australia will face Luckas Lacko from Slovakia
