PHOENIX, March 17, 2019
Mikhail Kukushkin and Matteo Berrettini will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the Arizona Tennis Classic in Phoenix. Kukushkin beat Salvatore Caruso of Italy, who knocked out top seed David Goffin in the stage of the last eight. The No. 4 seed from Kazakhstan didn’t face a break point, converting four of his own nine chances to secure a comfortable 6-1, 7-5 victory in one hour and 40 minutes.
Later on Saturday, Berrettini defeated No. 12 seeded Argentine Guido Andreozzi 7-6(3), 6-1. The 22-year-old Italian struck seven aces, winning 80 per cent of his first service points to advance after one hour and 31 minutes.
Kukushkin won both previous meetings with Berrettini at Shanghai and Irving last year.
