Cilic joins the line-up, which was previously led by his fellow Croat Borna Coric.
“The fact, that one of the best tennis players in the world chose to play at the Hungarian Opent shows us, that it is possible to organize a successful international high-class event,” tournament director Attila Richter was quoted on the website of Hungarian sports magazin Nemzeti Sport.
With Marco Cecchinato from Italy and Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili, two more players ranked inside the Top 20 will come to capital and the most populous city of Hungary. Local players Attila Balazs and Mate Valkusz will also appear in the main draw. Zsombor Piros will play the qualfiying.
In 2017, Budapest replaced the former ATP 250 event in Bucharest, Romania. It marked the first time that Hungary hosted an ATP Tour tournament. France’s Lucas Pouille won the inaugural edition of the clay-court event, with Cecchinato lifting the trophy last year.
