WHITE PLAINS, April 30, 2019 (USTA Press Release)
Tommy Paul or Tennys Sandgren will clinch a main draw wild card into the 2019 French Open this week by winning the men’s side of the USTA’s Roland Garros Wild Card Challenge at the ATP Challenger 80 event in Savannah, Ga.
Paul, 21 and ranked No. 143, is the current leader in the Challenge points standings, with 148. Sandgren, 27 and now ranked No. 93, is second, with 89. If Paul reaches the semifinals in Savannah, he would clinch the wild card. For Sandgren to get the wild card, Paul must lose before the semifinals and Sandgren must win the title in Savannah.

Seventeen-year old Whitney Osuigwe has the lead in the women’s side of the Challenge, with 115 points from winning the singles title at the W80 event in Charlottesville, Va., last week. The women’s Challenge window still has two more weeks to go, while this is the final week for the men.
Only Americans who did not otherwise earn direct entry into the French Open are eligible. Sandgren, while ranked No. 93 this week, was ranked outside of the direct-entry cutoff for the 2019 French Open two weeks ago, when the acceptance list for the main draw was released.
Should the player with the highest number of Challenge points earn direct entry into the French Open, the wild card will go to the next eligible American in the Challenge points standings. In the event of a tie, the player with the best ATP or best WTA singles ranking at the end of the four-week Challenge windows will earn the wild card.
The men’s side of the Challenge counts rankings points from each player’s best three results in the four-week window, while the women’s side of the Challenge counts each players’ points from their best two results.
