The World No. 159 from Argentina sent down seven aces, winning 77 per cent of his first service points as well as 81 per cent of his second service points to prevail after one hour and 43 minutes. Next up for Bagnis will be No. 11 seeded Dutch Tallon Griekspoor, who edged out the tournament’s No. 7 Kimmer Coppejans from Belgium,  winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in one hour and 45 minutes.

In-form Portuguese Joao Domingues, who advanced to the quarterfinals at the Estoril Open last week, rallied past Brazilian ITF-entry Joao Magalhaes Heub de Menezes 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. The No. 13 seed from Porto broke his opponent’s serve four times to secure victory in two hours and 24 minutes.

“It was a really tough match, which demanded a lot from me but I was able to win,” Domingues said afterwards. The 25-year-old will next take on 10th favourite Norbert Gombos of Slovakia, who also came back from a set down to overcome No. 8 seed Emilio Gomez of Ecuador 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. The encounter lasted one hour and 42 minutes.

Geoffrey Blancaneaux of France and No. 16 seed Zdenek Kolar from the Czech Republic will go head-to-head in the remaining quarterfinal on Saturday. Semi-final matches will be played later in the afternoon.
