NÜRNBERG, May 17, 2019

Svetlana Kuznetsova will play at next week’s Nürnberger Versicherungscup. The former French Open as well as US Open champion has been awarded a wild card into the main draw of the WTA International event.

“Svetlana Kuznetsova is one of the greatest fighters this sport has ever seen. Winning two Grand Slam titles and reaching the quarterfinals at the Australian Open and at Wimbledon are part of an impressive career. I’m looking forward to welcoming Svetlana to Nuremberg for the very first time,” tournament director Sandra Reichel stated in a press release.

The 33-year-old Russian is currently ranked World No. 89 but had been part of the top 20 for nine years. Kuznetsova won 18 singles titles as well as 16 doubles trophies. She had recently been sidelined from the courts due to a wrist injury but made her comeback to the tour in April in Lugano.
