Lisa Ponomar of Germany is the champion of the 10th edition of the Cantanhede Ladies Open. The 22-year-old Hamburg native won Sunday’s final of the ITF World Tennis Tour W15 carpet event in Portugal against Karolina Berankova from the Czech Republic.
Ponomar withstood five aces, breaking her opponent’s serve seven times to secure a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 victory in one hour and 57 minutes. The No. 178 in the ITF World Tennis Rankings defeated Spaniards Almudena Sanz-Llaneza Fernandez and Alba Carillo Marin, as well as Vasilisa Aponasenka and Anna Ureke of Russia en route to the title match.
Following her maiden triumph on the ITF Pro Circuit in Den Haan, Ponomar takes away from the Iberian Peninsula $2,352 in prize money.
