NOTTINGHAM, May 31, 2019 (Press Release)
Last year’s finalist Dan Evans has been awarded a main draw wild card for the Nature Valley Open in Nottingham, which takes place at the Nottingham Tennis Centre from 8-16 June 2019.
The 29-year-old, currently ranked No.80 in the world having risen more than 1,000 places over the past 12 months, joins fellow British players Jay Clarke and James Ward, as well as former Top 20 players Bernard Tomic (AUS) and Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) in the first round of the LTA summer grass court event.
Evans had a successful run to to the final last year before losing to Australian Alex de Minaur. The British No.3 reached the final of the ATP 250 in Delray Beach in February this year and successfully qualified for the main draw of the Australian Open, and in Indian Wells and Miami.
The ATP Challenger runs concurrently alongside the women’s WTA tournament and features last year’s champion Ash Barty, world No.8, and British No.1 Johanna Konta.
Evans said: “I’m looking forward to coming back to Nottingham again this year.
“I have great memories of my run to the final of the Nature Valley Open last year where the crowd was so welcoming to all the players.
“Being from the Midlands this is as close to home as I can get and I hope I can get some good matches in during the week.”
Tournament Director, Rebecca James, said: “It is great news that Dan will be playing in Nottingham again as his run to the final in 2018 was a treat for all the fans and he played his part in a brilliant final on centre court.
“We have a strong men’s and women’s field this year once again and, with the tournament now just around the corner, anticipation is building for a fantastic tournament.”
The Nature Valley Open takes place at the Nottingham Tennis Centre from 8 June 2019 – centre court ticket prices start from just £10 for children under 16 and £21 for adults.
