Main draw action at the Karlsruhe Open kicked off on Tuesday at the Karlsruher ETV 1911. No. 7 seed Marvin Netuschil and Bastien Presuhn of Germany advanced to the second round of the ITF World Tennis Tour M25 clay-court event.
Netuschil eased past compatriot and wild card entry Tim Heger, winning 6-1, 6-1 in just 63 minutes. The World No. 436 in the ATP-Rankings will next take on Michael Vrbensky from the Czech Republic, who Raphael Baltensperger from Switzerland, who also entered the tournament with a wild card, 7-5, 6-3 in one hour and 49 minutes.
Presuhn caused the upset of the day by knocking out No. 8 seed and former World No. 161 Albano Olivetti of France. The 18-year-old wild card entry capitalized on five of his 10 break point chances to secure a 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(2) victory in exactly two hours of play. Next up for Presuhn will be either Frenchman Antoine Cornut Chauvinc or Gonzalo Villanueva of Argentina.
