HALLE, June 16, 2019

Ahead of the start of the 27th NOVENTI Open, top seed Roger Federer met the media.

“To win the tournament must always be the goal here in Halle,” said the 37-year-old Swiss on Sunday morning at a press conference at the GERRY WEBER STADIUM. “I’m injury free and I just love to play here. That’s why I’m feeling very good.”

Federer, currently ranked World No. 3, is aiming to capture his 10th tournament win in Westphalia. Federer said that he had “paused only two days” after reaching the semi-finals at Roland Garros to recharge his batteries. He is now feeling “really fresh, well rested and ready” for the grass-court season.

Shortly after his arrival in Halle on Saturday, Federer posted a photo on instagram from the balcony of his hotel room, enjoying a fantastic view over Court 1.

“Where can you find a room with such a view, it is just incredibly beautiful. When friends come here, they cannot believe that you can watch tennis from the hotel. It’s totally cool to see your friends and rivals from the balcony during their match,” said Federer.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion also feels well-prepared to open his title quest against Australian John Millman. “It’s always extremely tough to play against John. It will be a great match in the first round. It will be a real test, however, maybe that’s exactly what I need,” Federer commented on his upcoming opponent. Millman ended the Swiss Maestro’s 2018 US Open campaign, sealing a four-set victory.
