KITZBÜHEL, June 18, 2018
The Generali Open, an ATP 250 clay-court event to be held July 27 to August 3, 2019 in Kitzbühel, has released its player entry list on Tuesday, which is led by World No. 4 Dominic Thiem.
The tournament’s local hero will face strong competition from former Top 10-players, ex-champions as well as a couple of young guns. Thiem is seeking his first title on home soil. In-form Serbians Dusan Lajovic, who finished runner-up at Monte-Carlo earlier in the season, and Filip Krajinovic as well as Italian Marco Cecchinato will be three of the main contenders for the Kitzbühel crown this year.
A strong contingent of Spanish players is also part of the line-up, as Fernando Verdasco, Pablo Carreno Busta, Pablo Andujar and Roberto Caballes Baena will come to the Tyrolean Alps. The field includes a couple more clay-court specialists such as six-time ATP Tour champion Pablo Cuevas from Uruguay and Federico Delbonis of Argentina. 20-year-old Austrian Juri Rodionov has been awarded a wild card.
“It won’t be easy for Dominic. There will be a lot of dangerous players in the draw,” tournament director Alexander Antonitsch commented in a press release.
