Mikael Ymer Secures Third Round Berth At Ilkley Trophy

ILKLEY, June 20, 2019

A warm Wednesday at the LTA’s Ilkley Trophy didn’t get off to the best start for the British contingent as Brydan Klein was defeated by No. 15 seed Mikael Ymer of Sweden 3-6, 1-6 and Maia Lumsden was beaten 6-3, 6-1 by Russia’s Varvara Flink.

On Centre court, the first match of the day saw No.7 seed Jiri Vesely from the Czech Republic beat US-American Bjorn Fratangelo 6-1, 6-4. Mitchell Krueger from the United States also fell in the second round, as he was defeated by No.3 seed Marius Copil of Romania in a tight match, which finished 7-6(5), 7-6(4). No. 12 seed Jason Jung of Taipei won 7-6(2), 6-1 against Australia’s Alex Bolt, while Belgian Ruben Bemelmans edged out Evgeny Karlovskiy of Russia 6-4, 6-1 in the last match of the day on Centre court.

The first match of the day on court two saw a great ITF World Tennis Tour women’s encounter between Robin Anderson from the United States and Marta Kostyuk of the Ukraine, with the US-American winning 4-6, 7-6(0), 6-2. Over on Court four, Jana Cepelova from Slovakia secured victory over Ivana Jorovic of Serbia in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
