The run of British wild card entry Paul Jubb at the Ilkley Trophy this week has come to an end. The 19-year-old from Hull lost to No. 9 seeded Austrian Dennis Novak in the third round of the ATP Challenger 125 grass-court event 6-3, 6-2 on Thursday afternoon.
Novak saved the only break point he faced, converting three of his own eight chances to advance in only 58 minutes. The World No. 117 will next take on veteran Lukas Rosol from the Czech Republic, who defeated No. 15 seed Mikael Ymer of Sweden 6-3, 7-6(4).
World No. 64 Ugo Humbert from France remains the highest ranked player left in the men’s singles draw in Yorkshire. The tournament’s No. 2 booked his spot in the quarterfinals with a comfortable 6-2, 7-5 win over South Korean Soonwoo Kwon in 70 minutes. Humbert will next be challenged by German Dominik Koepfer.
Over on Court 2, No. 3 seed Marius Copil fell to Go Soea 7-6(5), 6-3. The 34-year-old Japanese saved all 10 break points he faced, winning 53 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in one hour and 27 minutes. Up next for Soeda will be No. 6 seed Spaniard Marcel Granollers of Spain.
No. 13 seeded Frenchman Antoine Hoang and 10th favourite Kamil Majchrzak of Poland will go head-to-head in the remaining quarterfinal on Friday.
