Roger Federer made history on Sunday, defeating David Goffin of Belgium 7-6(2), 6-1 in the singles final of the NOVENTI Open to clinch a record 10th title in Halle, Westphalia. The top seed from Switzerland saved all three break points he faced, converting three of his own six chances to prevail after one hour and 23 minutes.

“It’s an emotional, touching moment, a super feeling too. I never thought that I would ever win so often and so long here,” said Federer, who has become the oldest player to win a tour-level title since 43-year-old Ken Rosewall at 1977 Hong Kong. The 37-year-old Basel native made his debut at Halle as an 18-year-old in 2000.

“It’s wonderful that Roger was able to fulfill his dream of winning his tenth title here,” tournament director Ralf Weber added.

By lifting his 102nd tour-level trophy, his 19th victory on grass, Federer took away from Germany €429,955 in prize money as well as 500 ATP-Ranking points.
