MILAN, June 28, 2019
The Aspira Tennis Cup Trofeo BCS is the lone ATP Challenger tournament this week. The €46,600 clay-court event takes place at the Aspria Harbour Club Milano. Top seed Hugo Dellien advanced to the quarterfinals on a hot Thursday in Northern Italy with a 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-3 win over Renzo Olivo from Argentina.
The World No. 93 from Bolivia broke his opponent’s serve 10 times to prevail after two hours and 34 minutes. Next up for Dellien will be Spanish veteran Tommy Robredo, who lifted his second trophy of the year in Parma last week. The 37-year-old Spaniard eased past Italian lucky loser Riccardo Balzerani 6-2, 6-3.
Lorenzo Musetti is leading the Italian #NextGenATP charge. The wild card entry, aged 17, benefited from the retirement of Jose Herandez-Fernandez from the Dominican Republic. The No. 16 seed was forced to stop playing after losing the first set 7-5 and trailing 3-0 in the second set due to illness.
“Fantastic emotions today, but I think it has been the hottest day since I played tennis,” an exhausted Musetti said afterwards. The teenager will next take on Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador, who beat Frenchman Alexandre Muller 6-2, 6-3.
In the two remaining quarterfinals Danilo Petrovic from Serbia will play Frederico Ferrerira Silva of Portugal and No. 8 seeded Indian Sumit Nagal will face Russian qualifier Aslan Karatsev.
