MONTREAL, June 29, 2019 (Tennis Canada Press Release)

In 2019, Rogers Cup presented by National Bank will not only be a world-class tennis tournament for the best players in the world. In fact, a variety of activities make it a can’t miss event in Montreal this summer.

The 40th anniversary of the Montreal Tournament
This year, Tennis Canada is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank in Montreal. To mark the occasion, numerous initiatives have been organized. Fans will be invited to attend a conference which will touch on the evolution of the tournament in the last 39 years. In the context of this conference, which will take place on Friday, August 2 at 2:30 p.m. in the BMW VIP lounge, tournament directors, sponsors and players will share their best memories and anecdotes from the Montreal tournament.

On the site of the Rogers Cup, two locations will bring back memories for those who like to get nostalgic. In fact, Court no. 7, a practice court, will be painted and decorated in the style of the tournament back in the 1990s, while the Mezzanine will be a place where fans can relive some of the best moments from the tournament thanks to various photo and video content.

Finally, on Monday night, during the opening night of the 2019 edition of the tournament, a special ceremony will be held on Centre Court to highlight this important anniversary.

The Other Cup – The Celebrity Cup
Eight celebrities are set to take part in the first edition of The Other Cup – The Celebrity Cup in a tournament that promises to be very entertaining. The quarter-finals and semi-finals of this event will be played on the National Bank Court on Sunday, August 4. The two finalists will then go head-to-head for a chance to lift the trophy on Centre Court on Saturday, August 10 during the day session. Moreover, in order to add to credibility to their role as tennis players, the celebrities will be dressed in Fila from head to toe. Alexandre Barrette, Sébastien Benoît and Jean-René Dufort, the tournament’s spokesperson for 2019, have already confirmed their participation. The final list of participants will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Making a return…
Numerous popular initiatives are making a return this year, including the IGA Family Weekend which begins on Friday, August 2 and offers fans the chance to watch practice sessions of some of the best players in the world. The day will conclude with the Official Draw Ceremony to which members of the public are invited as of 4:30 p.m. in the BMW VIP Lounge on-site. The always-popular Ball Hockey Challenge presented by Knapperpromises to draw crowds on Saturday August 3 with the participation of NHL players, ATP players and former members of Les Canadiennes, Karell Emard, Marie-Soleil Deschênes and Geneviève Bannon.

Fans will be pleased to learn that their ticket for the Rogers Cup will once again give them access to a free round-trip using the STM public transit system on the day of their match. Tennis Canada and the STM are proud to champion this mode of transportation particularly due to the very limited number of parking spaces available around the site and to remain aligned with the tournament’s Sustainable Development Plan which will be able to rely on an important partnership with RECYC-QUÉBEC.
