The clay-court circuit resumes with the Swedish Open in Bastad this week and local favourite Mikael Ymer advanced to the second round of the ATP 250 event on Monday.
Ymer emerged victorious from the battle of the wild card entries with Spanish young gun Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, winning 4-6, 7-5, 6-0. The 20-year-old Swede capitalized on seven of his 13 break point chances to prevail after two hours and eight minutes. Ymer will next take on either Henri Laaksonen of Switzerland or No. 5 seed Nicolas Jarry from Chile.
Earlier in the day, Roberto Carballes Baena fought past fellow Spaniard Jaume Munar 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. The 26-year-old Tenerife native won 51 per cent of the total points played to finish the encounter after two hours and 20 minutes. Carballes Baena, a two-time ATP Challenger champion this season in Murcia and Lisbon, will next take on the winner of the match between No. 7 seeded #NextGenATP Norwegian Casper Ruud and Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan.
