HAMBURG, July 17, 2019

Alexander Zverev and his brother Mischa, who was granted a wild card into the main draw of the Hamburg European Open, will kick off Center Court action of the ATP 500 clay-court event on Sunday. The siblings will team up with former Roland Garros champion Iva Majoli of Croatia and ex-top 10 player Barbara Schett from Austria in a mixed doubles exhibition match at 5 pm.

Visitors, who want to follow the action, only need a Center Court ticket for the day, which also includes the possibility to attend the qualifying matches in the afternoon and the opening event in the evening. German singer-songwriter and musician Max Giesinger as well as the Hamburger Goldkehlchen will be live on stage.

“To open the tournament next Sunday, we now offer a great mix of sports and entertainment. We are very glad that the Zverev brothers, Iva Majoli and Barbara Schett will make themselves available at short notice for this mixed doubles match. It fits perfectly that two Hamburg natives will play alongside two ladies who have won this tournament in the past,” tournament director Sandra Reichel stated in a press release.

Alexander Zverev will be the top seed of this year’s Rothenbaum tournament, making his first appearance in Hamburg since losing in the first round against Spaniard Inigo Cervantes in 2016. The current World No. 5 has played five times at the prestigious clay-court event. In 2013, at the age of 17, Zverev caught the tennis world’s attention by reaching the semi-finals.
