BASTAD, July 19, 2019

Bastad speaks Spanish! Two Argentines, one Chilean and one Spaniard will build the line-up at this year’s Swedish Open. Nicolas Jarry remains the highest seeded players left in the singles draw of the ATP 250 clay-court event.

The fifth favourite from Santiago de Chile eased past French veteran Jeremy Chardy 6-1, 6-4 on Friday. Jarry capitalized on all of his four break point chances to advance in one hour and 14 minutes.

“It’s been a very good tournament for me. I am very happy about the way that I am playing,” Jarry said after his win. “It was pretty tough today. When I was two breaks up, Jeremy started to play well and I needed to keep focused. I am happy to end in straight sets.”

The 23-year-old will next take on Federico Delbonis. The World No. 70 from Argentina defeated No. 8 seeded Portuguese Joao Sousa 6-2, 7-5. Delbonis won 56 per cent of the total points played to seal victory in one hour and 18 minutes.

Delbonis’ compatriot Juan Ignacio Londero also made his way into the stage of the final four. The No. 6 seed fought past Richard Gasquet of France 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3. Londero withstood 13 aces, hitting eight of his own to prevail after two hours and 51 minutes. Next up for the Buenos Aires resident will be Albert Ramos Vinolas, who emerged victorious from the all-Spanish affair with Roberto Carballes Baena. The 31-year-old from Barcelona won 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 after two hours and 15 minutes.
