USTA Press Release, July 23, 2019
Former Australian Open boys’ champion and world junior No. 1 Sebastian Korda took the lead in the US Open Men’s Wild Card Challenge in Week 2, reaching the final at the ATP Challenger 110 event in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
It was the first Challenger final appearance for the 19-year-old son of former Australian Open champion Petr Korda, and his 65 points earned put him firmly ahead of second-place Daniel Nguyen heading into Week 3. Korda has yet to play in the main draw of a Grand Slam, and his only pro appearance at the US Open was in qualifying in 2018.
Usue Arconada remains atop the women’s Challenge standings table. While Madison Brengle won the USTA Pro Circuit W60 event in Berkeley, Calif., last week over fellow American Kristie Ahn, Brengle earned direct acceptance into the US Open and doesn’t need the wild card.

Both wild cards will go to the American with the highest cumulative total of ATP or WTA singles ranking points earned from their best three results during the five-week window. Should the player with the highest number of Challenge points earn direct entry into the US Open, the wild card will go to the next eligible American in the Challenge points standings. In the event of a tie, the player with the best ATP or best WTA singles ranking on August 12 will earn the wild card.
