Binghamton Challenger Semi-Finals Are Set

Mitchell Krueger advances to the semi-finals at Binghamton

Semifinal Saturday at the 2019 Levene Gouldin & Thompson Tennis Challenger is set, as quarterfinal action wrapped up at Recreation Park on Friday evening.

Kicking off play at 11:00 a.m. was Joao Menezes and Duckhee Lee. The No. 14 seed was able to close out the match 7-5, 6-2 and advance to his second consecutive ATP Challenger semifinal. Next up, Evgeny Karlovskiy and Maxime Cressy went deep into a three set match, with Karlovskiy winning 7-6(2), 4-6, 7-6(4). Meanwhile over on Court 1, Yuichi Sugita rolled past Max Purcell 6-3, 6-1.

In the featured evening match, No. 7 seed Mitchell Krueger took to the court against the highest remaining seed, Dudi Sela. The No. 4 seed quickly took the opening set 6-1, but the American was able to hang close in the second and force the tiebreak. Krueger closed out the second 7-6(5) and kept that rolling into the final set. Krueger made his move, breaking Sela, and was able to hold serve and close out the match with a final score of 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.

Advancing in doubles were the teams of Diego Hidalgo and Martin Redlicki, Sekou Bangoura and Teymuraz Gabashvili, No. 2 seeds JC Aragone and Alex Lawson, and the top seeds of Max Purcell and Luke Saville.

Off the court, the tournament hosted its Dick’s Sporting Goods Tennis Challenge at 2:30 p.m. Kids had the opportunity to participate in clinics, have fun, and enjoy professional tennis. In the evening VIP’s attended a special event under the big tent that featured great food, drinks, and live music. On Saturday, the tournament will host a CoreLife Eatery / Moe’s VIP Lunch at 12:00 p.m. In between matches a Wilson Free for All will also take place, where the crowd will get up on their feet to have some fun and win prizes.

Semifinal action will get underway at 11:00 a.m. with the first of the two doubles matches. Singles will get underway shortly after as the remaining four players look to grab their spot in the championship match.
