KITZBÜHEL, July 27, 2019

The draw for the Generali Open has been made led by top seed Dominic Thiem. After a first-round bye, the World No. 4 from Austria will open his Kitzbühel campaign against either compatriot and wild card entry Sebastian Ofner or a qualifier. Thiem is bidding to win his first trophy on home soil.

Dusan Lajovic, Serbia’s No. 2 seed of the ATP 250 event, awaits the winner of the encounter between French veteran Jeremy Chardy and Marco Cecchinato of Italy. Third favourite Fernando Verdasco will open his title bid against either Jozef Kovalik of Slovakia and a qualifier. Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay is the fourth seed in Tyrol and will meet the winner of battle of the Austrian wild card entries Dennis Novak and Jurij Rodionov.

“Same match as last year in the first round,” said Novak, who attended Saturday’s draw ceremony. “At least I know what to expect. Jurij is a very good player, he may not have his best season this year, but nevertheless I have to play my best tennis. And an Austrian duel on Center Court will be cool, I’m looking forward to it.”

Two-time champion and Kitzbühel resident Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany will oppose Richard Gasquet of France. The winner could face Thiem in the quarterfinals.

Dominic’s younger brother Moritz will make his debut on the ATP Tour teaming up with two-time Olympic Gold medalist Nicolas Massu of Chile in doubles. The pair was awarded a wild card and will play Hugo Dellien of Bolivia and David Vega Hernandez in the first round.
