Max Hans Rehberg from Germany is the champion of the Dunlop Bavarian Summer Championships 2019. The J5 event of the ITF World Tennis Tour was held by the Bavarian Tennis Federation BTV at the venue of the TC Aschheim for the third time.
Following his doubles title together with his teammate Sven Lemstra at the same place last year, the 15-year-old player from TC Aschheim clinched the singles and doubles trophy on Saturday.
En route to the final, No. 6 seeded Rehberg started into the boys’ singles competition with easy wins against his German compatriots Luke Connor Heron and Yannik Kelm, followed by clear victories versus Austrian No. 10 seed Niklas Rohrer and No. 2 seed Adam Heinonen from Sweden.
In the semi-finals, Rehberg, who is coached by Lars Uebel from the TennisBase Oberhaching, rallied past big serving Frenchman Mathis Debru in a tough three-set battle. Debru stopped the good run of German Nico Kleber, who captured the Rudi-Berger-Cup during the BMW Open 2019 by FWU, in the stage of the last eight in two sets.
Runner-up Max Basing from Great Britain advanced from the top half of the singles draw. After beating German wildcard entry Leon Formella and Can Ayral from Luxembourg, he eased past No. 3 seed Mathias Musil and Martin Benes from the Czech Republic. 16-year-old Basing, who practices at the Rafael Nadal Academy in Manacor, made the last step to the final in defeating German David Tesic in straight sets.
Lasting one hour and 38 minutes, local hero Rehberg secured a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the championship match to lift his first singles trophy on the ITF Junior Circuit. During the winners ceremony, he praised the spectators and the organizers: „It is a lot of fun to compete in front of so many spectators. It is always a great feeling for me to play at home. Winning this tournament is very special for me. Thanks to all that made this tournament possible.”
Later in the day, Rehberg claimed the trophy in the all-German doubles final. Alongside his partner Maximilian Homberg, they defeated the duo of Nico Kleber and Alen Mujakic by the score of 6-2, 6-4. All four players practice at the TennisBase Oberhaching.
Nova wins girls’ title
Tournament’s No. 5 Andrea Nova triumphed at the girls’ singles competition. The 15-year-old Czech knocked off Laura Putz from Germany in the stage of the last four in a tough three-set encounter. 15-year-old Putz , who is starting for the TC Aschheim, clinched the trophy of the ITF J4-event in Cadolzburg earlier this season.
Agata Cerna from the Czech Republic, who entered the tournament on position 11, advanced to the final in beating top seeded Swiss Lea Magun in the semi-finals in three sets.
Nova celebrated her maiden trophy on the ITF Junior Circuit with a 6-2, 7-5 win after two hours and seven minutes in the championship match.
Later on, the German tandem Deborah Muratovic and Louisa Voelz got the crown of the girls’ doubles competition. They fought past the two singles-finalists Andrea Nova and Agata Cerna 2-6, 6-1, 10-7.
The German clay-court swing on the ITF Junior Circuit will move on to Gladbeck (J2) and Rutesheim (J3) next month. The next ITF Junior event on Bavarian soil will take place at the beginning of the 2020 season at the TennisBase Oberhaching, which is located in the south of Munich.
