TAMPERE, July 30, 2019

Mikael Ymer is the champion of the Tampere Open held on clay at the Tampereen Tenniskeskus. The No. 3 seed from Sweden fought past defending champion Tallon Griekspoor from the Netherlands, winning 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final.

Ymer won 74 per cent of his first service points and broke his opponent five times to seal victory in just under two hours of play.

“The final was my best match of the tournament,” said Ymer, as quoted on the ATP Challenger Tour website. “My serve was good and I was in control of my game. Tallon is a good friend and I know his game well. He is a tough opponent. I also know I had a lot of fans in Tampere and I thank them for their support. It was like I was in Sweden and I felt at home.”

By lifting his second trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour following his maiden triumph at Noumea at the beginning of the season, Ymer took away from Finnland €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points rising to a career-high World No. 108.

Earlier in the day, Sander Arends and David Pel from the Netherlands won the doubles title of the Tampere Open. The top seeds of the €46,600 event beat the all-Russian combo of Ivan Nedelko and Alexander Zhurbin 6-0, 6-2. The final lasted only 46 minutes.
