Alex Bolt leads the quarterfinals line-up of the Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships held at the UK Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex. The No. 2 seed of the $54,160 ATP Challenger hard-court event fought past US-American Roy Smith on Thursday evening.
Bolt struck 11 aces, winning 91 per cent of his first service points to secure a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory in one hour and 49 minutes. The World No. 152 from Australia remains the highest seed left in the singles draw and will next take on Alexander Ritschard from the United States.
Earlier in the day, Jannik Sinner booked his spot in the stage of the final eight with 6-4, 6-7(10), 6-1 win over US-American Maxime Cressy. The 17-year-old Italian prevailed after two hours and 12 minutes. Up next for Sinner, who celebrated his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour earlier this season on home soil in Bergamo, will be No. 5 seed Duckhee Lee of South Korea.
In the remaining two quarterfinal matches No. 14 seed Liam Broady will take on fellow Briton Lloyd Glasspool and 13th favourite JC Aragone from the United States will play No. 7 seeded Australian Akira Santillan.
